WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Kathleen Rice (NY-04) released a statement after voting in favor of the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions (HEROES) Act, which passed by the House of Representatives by a vote of 208-199:

“Today the House passed a new coronavirus relief bill that provides critically-needed funding to address the unprecedented health and economic crisis gripping our nation. The HEROES Act authorizes $1 trillion for state and local governments, and will send much needing funding back to New York to pay health care workers, police officers, firefighters, teachers and other essential public workers who are in danger of losing their jobs.

“I am also pleased the bill includes a provision I fought for to broaden forbearance relief for all homeowners and multifamily property owners to include those who do not have federally owned or backed mortgages and to prohibit servicers from demanding a full, one-time lump sum payment after the forbearance period.

“We are beginning to get the virus under control, but every day we still see the need for further action to combat the pandemic. I was proud to support this legislation, and I promise to keep fighting to ensure New York and Long Island have every resource needed to overcome this crisis.”
